With Justice League announced, and casting rumors pouring in, I'd like to take a second and look at the characters themselves, more specifically the butt of all superhero jokes: Aquaman. We all know Aquaman and his abilities to do... absolutely nothing on dry land, which causes several jokes about him, and his orange and green spandex and campy smile doesn't help. So now i pose the question: How do you guys think Zack Snyder will reintroduce us to Aquaman? What will he look like? What role will he play in the film? and who should play him? I'll first provide my ideas and feel free to follow along.
I'll start off with appearences.
So first, they should toss the orange and green out the window. If you want to make Aquaman cool, you take what makes him REALLY cool and expand on it greatly; and in this case it's the fact that he's a warrior king. I think they should stick with a Khal Drogo feel (this comes in later on casting), with light armor, a bare chest, and body paint. After all, if you're fighting underwater you want as little things to weigh you down as possible. Also, they should go for the 90's look, with the trident/spear replacing his severed left hand, and give him a pretty sick sword to use on offense. You still get the trident he's known for, just in a different way. On top of all of this, i'm going to take an EXTREMELY risky move and say that they shouldn't even call him Aquaman in the film. The terrible name already has so much crap hanging on it from jokes that they should get rid of it all together, and perhaps stick with the Atlantean name Orin Atlan-son.
As for what role he will play, I'm aiming for more of a leader position. Batman's got the tactician aspect down, Superman is all the brute the group needs, Cyborg's got the technology, Wonder Woman is the bravest, Green Lantern has the supplies, and Flash is a strategic advantage regarding his speed. Being a king, Aquaman has the ability to lead armies and a country and there could be some cool conflict between having to chose the League or Atlantis. To make up for his lack of usefulness when there's no water around, he could just be a monster when it comes to hand to hand combat and sword fighting.
As for who should play him- Jason Momoa is my obvious choice with the route i'm aiming for in consideration. He's proven he can play a leader and a warrior at the same time and he's got the dirty and dangerous look to him. If Momoa isn't available, Berard Butler's my next bet. Zack has worked with him before in 300 where he played a stunning and killer Leonidas and if Zack calls him back up for another film, all he would really have to do is play a more aquatic Leonidas.
So those are my ideas, and if you have any of your own, I'd love to hear your input.
