On March 30, 2017, Variety announced that Joss Whedon is close to closing a deal with WB and that he will write, direct, and produce a solo Batgirl film, and that the project will also feature other characters from the world of Gotham.^[1] Jon Berg confirmed that Whedon will direct the film, and that before Joss came on they were planning on making the film.^[2] On February 22, 2018, The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline reported that Whedon had left the Batgirl project after not being able to crack the story. Warner Bros are now keen on getting a female director for the film.^[3] On April 9, 2018 Christina Hodson was announced to be replacing Whedon as the writer for the project.^{[4] [5]}
