"I don’t have rage issues!"
—Helena Bertinelli to Black Canary

Helena Alice Bertinelli was born into a crime family. After losing her family, she later becomes an assassin going by the name Huntress who resides in Gotham.

Helena was born a mafia princess into one of the most well-off crime families in Gotham. While most of her childhood is shrouded in mystery, it seemed that Helena had a happy life. Until one day when she arrives home from school, she finds her whole family at gunpoint by rival crime boss and his henchmen. The henchmen killed nearly all of the Bertinellis, except Helena.

One of the henchman finds Helena, but instead of killing her, he decides to help her by keeping her hidden and sneaking her out of Gotham, showing the eight year old unparented child mercy. The henchman takes Helena to Sicily, Italy where his younger brother and father look after her. Over the years, remembering the faces of the men who gunned down her family, Helena swore revenge for their deaths. With the help of the father and brother, Helena began training in many forms of martial arts by the time she was fifteen. Using a crossbow as an additional weapon to fight, Helena became a ruthless killing machine.
