Template:Object Atlanna's Trident is an Atlantean weapon originally wielded by Atlanna. The trident was passed on to her son, Orin, as a child when his mother was forced to leave him in his early life.[1]

History

Wielded by Atlanna

The trident was originally wielded by Queen Atlanna of Atlantis, who used it in battle against her enemies.

In the 1980s, a battle left Atlanna wounded and she fled, ending up on a beach where she was discovered by Thoas Curry, who nursed her back to health. During their time together, Atlanna and Thomas fell in love, and a year following their encounter, they had a son named Arthur Curry.

Atlanna's Legacy

However, Atlanna was forced to leave her son and return to Atlantis in the face of prejudice from her own people, the Atlanteans. Before she departed, Atlanna left Arthur her trident, so he would never forget where he came from.[1]

After he was fully grown, Arthur wielded the trident as

Justice League

Arthur asks Mera to give him the Trident and the Royal Armor, in order for him to confront Steppenwolf and his minions. After the League battles Steppenwolf, the New God manages to breaks the walls beneath Gotham's Harbor, unleashing its waters onto the team of heroes, who had little time to react. At the last second Aquaman arrives, using the Trident's power to hold the massive water wave giving enough time for the team to retreat to safety.

Alongside the Justice League, Aquaman uses his Trident to stab and kill many Parademons and also in the final fight against Steppenwolf.

Some time after Steppenwolf's defeat, Aquaman is seen returning to Atlantis, however, he did not have the trident with him.

Trivia

  • The trident, despite its title, has 5 prongs instead of 3, leading people to refer to it as a "quindent".
  • The trident is approximately 7 feet tall, with Aquaman actor Jason Momoa being slated as 6'4".
  • The design of the trident is based on the Trident of Neptune.

Behind the Scenes

  • In the comics, Aquaman's trident has possessed numerous magical capabilities, effectively serving as a magical conduit to produce a variety of effects.
  • While not Aquaman's signature trident in the DC Extended Universe, the five-pronged trident has been the official weapon of the Atlantean hero in DC Comics.
    • As such, in the New 52 comic storyline Throne of Atlantis, it's stated that only Atlantean royalty can hold the trident due to an enchantment placed upon it.
