The word Themyscira, which is actually spellled "Themiskyra" (greek: Θεμίσκυρα), means "Lady (kyra) Justice (Themis)".
To create Themyscira, director Patty Jenkins and her team used islands off the coasts of Italy and China to enhance the otherworldliness of scenes filmed on Italy’s Amalfi coast, Cilento coast, Castle del Monte, Matera, and Vieste.
Producer Charles Roven describes Themyscira as "a place that has the 'you’ve never been to' kind of feel. But once you're there, you're not so sure you really want to leave so fast."
Themyscira is described as all earth stones and classic mythology with a warrior edge.
